WYNDING Open-field maze tower defense
Phase 1 · In development Open source · AGPL

01 — The mechanism

Your towers are the maze.

Creeps always walk the shortest remaining path to the exit. You build towers to lengthen it — wall, divert, double back — with one rule that never breaks: the exit stays reachable. The whole game is finding the meaner maze.

FIG. 01 — Tap a cell to build. The route re-solves.

Play the preview unmapped territory. here be dragons (and bugs).

The build is an early Phase 1 snapshot — one board, expect rough edges.

02 — Why optimizers stay

Depth you re-solve, never grind.

A

The better solve

Replay a board to find a shorter, meaner maze. The "aha" when a non-obvious layout suddenly reframes the whole board — that is the game.

B

A ladder you can trust

Scores come out of a deterministic sim and re-derive server-side, so a competitive leaderboard can't be faked Phase 3.

C

Strategy, not reflexes

The skill ceiling is knowledge and planning, never twitch. Learn the meta and you compete — no unbridgeable gap between newcomers and legends.

D

It keeps getting better

Open source is the engine of longevity: the community tunes balance and mods in new mechanics, so the meta never calcifies Phase 4.

03 — Where it is

A sequence, not a schedule.

Built in public, phase by phase. No dates — each phase ships when it's solid. Straight from the roadmap:

  1. Phase 1 Solid single-player One board taken from nothing to genuinely fun: tower and creep variety, a full winnable wave arc, leveling, and a tuned economy. ◂ In progress
  2. Phase 2 Persistence & more boardsSaved progress, best-scores and seeds, plus additional official boards.
  3. Phase 3 The competitive ladderSubmitted runs re-validated server-side — the canonical, un-fakeable leaderboard.
  4. Phase 4 Community & modsThe ruleset format opened up: new towers, creeps, economies, custom boards — with their own leaderboard buckets.
  5. Phase 5 DistributionMobile and desktop / Steam builds, all from the one web core.
  6. Phase 6 Multiplayer horizonCompetitive play beyond the leaderboard — the shared deterministic sim keeps the door open.

04 — Tell me how it went

Early build, loud opinions welcome.
